The 2018-2019 tournament season is moving right along with a number of events already in the record books! Beginning with last July’s Summerfest, then a strong Team Illinois turnout at the UnitedHealthcare US OPEN, mid-October action at the Glass Court Fall Shootout, on to the Turkey Shoot including a well-attended LPRT Tier 1 Pro Stop…these are the events with full coverage in ISRA Courtside, all of which can be viewed here from this homepage by clicking on the newsletter icon to the right.
After a holiday break, many competed in ISRA State Doubles (late January) and ISRA State Singles (late February) with a few escaping to Arizona for USAR National Doubles in early February. After State Singles, it was time for the 34th Annual Shamrock Shootout IRT Tier 1 Pro Stop presented by KWM Gutterman! Seven countries, 17 states, 246 players, 31 divisions…these are the stats that blew the tournament staff away as the entries kept coming and coming! Congratulations to Glass Court, the IRT, and Geoff Peters (fundraiser extraordinaire) for this event described as very successful by all accounts. Kudos go also to the sponsors who made the Shamrock possible as well as the many volunteers who deserve so much gratitude for bringing it all together.
Congratulations to Geoff Peters also for his well-deserved induction into the ISRA Hall of Fame at the ISRA Annual Awards Ceremony on February 23rd at State Singles. Also recognized that evening were Keith Minor (Male Player of the Year), Janet Eminger (Female Player of the Year), Nadeem Sharifuddin (Most Improved Player of the Year), and Cheryl Kirk (Distinguished Service Award). And,10-year-old Freddy Conforti had some great thoughts to share as he accepted his TJ Ferro Junior Scholarship Award!
Wow, what’s next? It’s USAR Regionals (Chicago style), of course, again hosted at Glass Court in Lombard! The dates are April 26-28, and Tournament Director Geoff Peters is offering this event entirely in pool play format, guaranteeing multiple matches for all competitors. For more information and to enter, visit https://www.r2sports.com/tourney/home.asp?TID=30566.
It’s usually a long and somewhat lonely racquetball stretch (locally) between Regionals (April) and Summerfest (July 26 – 28th), but as a reward for those of you whose USAR profiles and driver’s licenses verify you as 40 and older, have we got a deal for you! The National Masters Racquetball Association is bringing its annual NMRA International Championships to Chicago/Lombard for the first time ever June 27 – 30th. Yep, it’s at Glass Court, a club and staff whose reputation for delivering top-notch competitive experiences keeps them on the elite list of locations known for drawing players from all over the country and the world! We’d LOVE to welcome the NMRA with an impressive turnout of players from Illinois and surrounding states. Let’s do this! Check out NMRA details at https://www.r2sports.com/tourney/home.asp?TID=30294. REMEMBER: the round robin format makes it necessary for players to be available all day on Thursday and Friday. Request vacation time NOW!
Since January 2017, Glass Court has hosted multiple events beyond its own four tournaments each year. ISRA (Singles and Doubles), WSMRA (Women’s Senior Masters), LPRT (female pros), IRT (male pros), and NPRA (National Police) events have all enjoyed this great club and their reputation for hospitality. The ISRA couldn’t be more grateful to Dan Jaskier, Joe DeArmas, and their staff and members for welcoming racquetball players from far and wide.
Notice of Annual Meeting and Election of ISRA Board Members
The ISRA Board will hold its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. As with all ISRA meetings, this meeting is open to the membership. The Annual Meeting is particularly important since all members attending have a vote in the election of the ISRA Board of Directors. If you plan to attend, please contact Barb Vagedes at firstname.lastname@example.org for time and location.
Board positions are staggered two-year terms. There are seven open seats on the Board for this year’s election. They are Laurel Davis, Dolores Lamberson, Barb Vagedes, Mike Davern, Pam Grace, Rick Seaberg, and John Thorson.
