Hot off the Press!

Greetings, ISRA Members! We hope you are enjoying the great summer here in Illinois!

The ISRA Courtside (First Half 2017) is hot off the press and posted! Just click on the icon in the top right corner of this page!! It’s a record 39 pages long, so settle down with a cup of coffee and a donut (or a kale salad, or whatever) to read all about this very busy first half of the year. We have a lot of great pictures (thanks to Mike Davern, Cheryl Kirk and the others who document many of our events) and tournament results from all things racquetball in Illinois.

The ISRA Tournament Calendar is on page 37 of this issue for those of you who want to print it and post it on your refrigerator, locker, or schedule less important family and work events around the most important events of the season. It’s also posted to the right of this message if you want to search for any event in particular.

Summerfest is in the record book as the first tournament of the 2017-18 season! Players numbering 102 came to Glass Court to play in 18 divisions, representing 10 states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. We had a nice round robin of five juniors who hit the courts on Sunday — three from Illinois and two from Iowa — and thanks to Marian Bala, Andy Pitock, Jeremy Dixon, and Michael Fornero for their supervision and guidance! A very warm “thank you” goes also to the volunteers who gave their time and expertise to the smooth running of the event — it could not be done without you: Marian Bala, Eric Battaglia, Todd Burris, Marla Cusano, Laurel Davis, Joe Eminger, Michael Fornero, Lori Good, Pam Grace, Dolores Lamberson, Geoff Peters, Rick Seaberg, Dave Singer, John Thorson, Claudia Torres, and Montserrat Torres.

We thank Glass Court (Joe DeArmas, Dan Jaskier, and their great staff) for these tournaments throughout the year. They make a big difference in the lives of Illinois racquetball players and those who come from far and wide to enjoy the competition and famous hospitality of this great club!

We’re currently talking to sponsors for the ISRA Season, and the Shamrock Shootout IRT Pro Tour event next March. If you know of ANYONE who would be interested in supporting professional racquetball (Men or Ladies) at an Illinois Tour Stop, please have them contact Geoff Peters at or (773) 251-4413.

We look forward to seeing you on the courts this season!
