Winter / Spring

February 5, 2020

State Doubles is in the books with over a 10% increase in participation from last year and with a new “choose your own days to play” schedule that people seemed to embrace. We want to continue hearing feedback on this – and we will continue to tweak the format to meet the scheduling that players are looking for. We learned something about people trying to compete in both a skill division and an age division on the same day – that was a lot of play and resulted in some time conflicts, late matches, and not a few forfeits as people competed beyond what their bodies could take. Congratulations to our Men’s Open Champions Clint Hickman and Eric Mathews, Women’s Open Champions Jennifer Suwanski and Karin McCauley, and Mixed Open Winners Danny Ortega and Daniela Molina! For complete results, view the results on R2.

The priority now is State Singles – and Tournament Director Cheryl Kirk and her merry team have been working to ensure that we build on the momentum of State Doubles by making State Singles a great event. This will be the first time that we have added Mixed Doubles (one of our most popular offerings at only $10 as a third division!) to the tournament – and all Mixed Doubles will play on Sunday!! She’s also cooked up a secret tournament souvenir, and we are working to schedule all pool and round robin play in every division on a single day. If there are playoffs in a division, you may have a second day of play (we learned from the folks that had 6+ matches at State Doubles), but that will only be if you win!! SO< GO WIN!!
