Welcome to the Illinois State Racquetball Association

December 2021

2021 is Almost Over – and That’s a Good Thing!!!

It’s been a very long year in Illinois racquetball with the events and competition coming back almost full force in the most recent quarter. The Travel and Cash Leagues are competing, and the recent Glass Court LPRT Turkey Shoot Presented by Platt Hill Nursery was a great event with the best of the LPRT (and some pretty darn good IRT players) competing.

Actually, it’s been kind of exciting to watch the World Championships this week in Guatemala and realize that almost every one of these players competed in either the KWM Gutterman Shamrock Shootout in September or the Turkey Shoot. With three (3) medals already guaranteed – and all four USA Singles players qualified for next year’s event in Birmingham, AL, it’s been a success already!

We’re hoping that you are looking ahead to the ISRA State Singles and Doubles planned for the last weekend of January (January 27 – 30th) at the Glass Court Swim and Fitness in Lombard. We’ll have the full array of divisions – and are working right now on the Entry Blank and R2 listing. You can expect to see those in the next week or so!! We’ll give you a good idea of when the divisions will play so that you can schedule yourself for divisions when you are available. This will be our first attempt at combining the two events – and we’re expecting a busy, fun, competitive weekend of racquetball.

The following weekend, a number of our players will be heading for the warm weather and visits with a many of our former players who have decamped to Arizona as either snowbirds or permanent residents. National Doubles will be held at ASU in Arizona once again – which is a great location for racquetball with lots of back wall seating and a premier facility. The hotel is almost across the street and has a great rate and a shuttle to the airport. What more could you ask for the first week of February!!

As we approach year end, please consider a tax-deductible donation to USA Racquetball to fund the growth of our sport. There is a “Donate” button on almost every message from USAR, and the Board of Directors (including our own Cheryl Kirk), is focused on specific programs that are moving our sport forward in both visibility and participation. As a 501-C-3, USA Racquetball donations are fully tax deductible and hopefully many of you will be able to help our National Association!!

As always, thanks for your support, and we hope to see you on the courts soon!
